The primary responsibility of an account executive is to do all the necessary coordination/transactions with clients (companies, organizations, etc.) assigned to him/her. In an advertising agency, an account executive is in charged to do business proposals, marketing plans and other project plots for projects/corporate activities to be conducted by the company for/with a specific client.
